JOB TITLE: Financial Accountant/Analyst
Location: 4004 Pioneer Woods Drive, Lincoln, NE 68506
Practice: Nebraska Hematology Oncology (NHO)
Reports To: Finance & Accounting Executive
JOB SUMMARY:
The financial accountant/analyst is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting both core accounting functions and strategic financial analysis. This in-person role combines traditional accounting duties with analytical responsibilities to support key business decisions. The individual in this position will play a vital role in managing the organization’s financial accounts, monitoring the revenue cycle, analyzing KPIs, preparing dashboards, and working across departments to ensure the financial health of the practice. A strong background in healthcare finance and the ability to manage contracts, bill pay, and drug purchasing are essential.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded.

Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.

Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.

Analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to predict future financial outcomes.

Assists with billing, accounts payable review, general ledger entries, and payroll reconciliation.

Supports month-end and year-end financial close processes.

Prepares and files tax returns and supports tax compliance activities.

Conducts internal audits to ensure financial accuracy and identify discrepancies.

Analyzes financial and operational data to identify trends, risks, and areas for improvement.

Develops financial models and dashboards to forecast performance and track key performance indicators (KPIs).

Provides actionable, data-driven recommendations to leadership on business strategy, cost containment, and operational efficiency.

Collaborates with the revenue cycle team to monitor billing, collections, and payer reimbursement trends.

Works with healthcare payer contracts to analyze financial terms and compliance.

Participates in drug purchasing analysis and vendor invoice processing.

Prepares and presents financial reports for internal stakeholders and department leaders.

Supports budget development, variance analysis, and financial planning processes.

Collaborates across departments to understand financial needs and provide insights aligned with organizational goals.

Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
-
Must have 2–4 years of related accounting and financial analysis experience.

Healthcare finance experience is required.
-
CPA preferred or eligibility to sit for the CPA exam.

Exposure to revenue cycle, contracts, and drug purchasing is highly desirable.

Experience using accounting software and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau).
Role Classification:
P02 – Intermediate

Typically reports to a supervisor or manager (controller).
SKILLS:

Strong understanding of GAAP and healthcare financial regulations.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance staff.

Proficient in Excel and financial systems; familiarity with Power BI and Tableau preferred.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

High level of professionalism and ethical standards.

Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Strong organizational and time management skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequently sedentary and seated at a desk, working at a computer for extended periods.

Works under regular deadlines with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.

Must be able to concentrate for extended periods and review financial data with accuracy.

Vision and hearing within normal limits (with or without correction).
