SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is an integral member of the Finance and Accounting team and is a key contributor to SVDP’s development of a standard of excellence across the organization’s financial management. He/she utilizes technologies such as NetSuite and Concur, bringing operational efficiencies, greater insight, and data integrity into financial reviews, reporting, and analysis. With support and under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant is given the tools, guidance, and opportunity to grow professionally while making a significant contribution to both the Finance and Accounting team and SVDP’s Program teams.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Financial Statements and Reporting
    • Key contributor to the daily, weekly, and monthly financial workflow, including month-end closing process; verifies transactions are completed for the current month; runs preliminary financial reports; performs analytical review of data; prepares journal entries and supporting documentation.
    • Records and reconciles assigned receivables and revenue accounts
    • Prepares monthly reconciliations on assigned balance sheet, income statement, and project code-based reporting.
    • Supports schedules for allocated expenses such as rent, telephone, postage, copier, insurance, and depreciation.
  • Budget and Reporting
    • Assists Controller with the recording and maintenance of the annual budget within the accounting system.
    • Supports monthly budget to actual reports to program teams; performs financial analysis, as needed.
    • Assists in grant expenditure reporting to funders, as needed, and maintaining up to date receivables aging reports.
    • Supports financial reporting includes monthly financial reports for program managers and senior management; comparisons of budget vs. actual expenses with explanation of variances; provides excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Payroll Management
    • Supports the review and upload of bi-weekly payroll entry.
    • Supports the review of and upload of bi-weekly 403b and 401k contributions to T Rowe Price portal.
    • Supports labor allocation review process.

SECONDARY DUTIES

  • Supports the annual organizational audit, including account reconciliations.
  • Supports the preparation of the 1099 MISC forms sent to vendors.
  • Supports record retention and storage process for the finance department.
  • Supports the team’s Account Payable function, as needed.
  • Maintains a neat and organized work area, including access to essential information.
  • Attends staff and other meetings, as directed.
  • Assists with and attend special events held by St. Vincent de Paul, as necessary, including Empty Bowls, or other similar events.
  • Supports a welcoming and positive professional work environment.

  • Contributes to a positive atmosphere of care and respect for clients, staff, funders, and other partners.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting, preferred.
  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, or related, and 2 years’ accounting experience, will be considered.
  • Experience in a range of financial activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and fixed assets, in an integrated accounting environment.
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting functions, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability to work with finance databases and software.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with vendors, volunteers, and SVDP staff.
  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills to be able to efficiently prioritize work and meet identified deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure, keep all work current and accurate, and respond to identified department deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Consistently demonstrate a team player attitude.

TYPE OF WORK

___X__LIGHT WORK: Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. It involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing/pulling of arm/or leg controls.
