Full job description
Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general accounting functions including general ledger accounting and accounts payable. This position will support the monthly general ledger close process, as well as any other support necessary within the Accounting Department.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analyses, including use of system reports to input and reconcile data for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare daily, monthly, and quarterly account reconciliations.
- Prepare daily, monthly, and quarterly journal entries.
- Perform and document processes, procedures, and internal controls, as applicable.
- Assist other team members related to financial reporting or special projects/analyses as needed.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; pursuit of Masters and CPA a plus
- At least 2+ years of experience in general accounting with full understanding of US GAAP
- Working knowledge of the accounting process
Preferred Qualifications:
- Insurance industry experience is preferred
Essential Skills:
- Experience in MS Office with Proficiency in Excel
- High level of detail orientation, organization and able to complete work accurately and timely
- Ability to learn new software applications, including but not limited to general ledger, policy administration and claims systems.
- Strong analytical, math and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
