LEARN, Southeastern Connecticut’s Regional Educational Service Center, invites candidates to apply for a full-time General Accountant opening.

General Scope of Responsibilities
The General Accountant will perform a variety of accounting / business functions for LEARN and LEARN member districts.

Relationship within the Organization
The General Accountant reports to and is evaluated by the Chief Financial Officer and/or the Assistant Director.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions.
    • Manage open purchase orders and invoices to ensure timely payment and liquidations.
    • Maintain current vendor information on all active vendors.
    • Prepare and distribute 1099s.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll and related activities.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and research open items. Ensure all accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures and controls in accounting and business office functions.
  • Perform other duties as appropriately assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

Experience

  • Prior accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of municipal accounting principles and methods.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Competencies

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of MUNIS, QuickBooks, and Infinite Visions software preferred.
