Staff Accountant
Kentucky Wesleyan College, a private, liberal arts college with a long-standing reputation for

Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant supports the financial, accounting, and budget functions of the Business
Office by performing a variety of administrative duties. The Staff Accountant will support the
day-to-day financial operations of the college, including accounts payable/receivable,
reconciliations, and financial reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in
their accounting career who is interested in working in a mission-driven, educational
environment.
Major Responsibilities
- Assist in processing and reconciling accounts payable and accounts receivable
transactions.
- Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closings.
- Perform bank and account reconciliations.
- Support payroll processing and related accounting entries.
- Help maintain financial records in compliance with internal policies and external
regulations.
- Assist with budget tracking and expense analysis.
- Transports bank deposits from the College to Bank.
- Assist the Director of Student Accounts/Bursar with the distribution of current and
former student statements.
- Serves as a backup for Accounts Payable as needed, including distributing credit cards,
fleet car keys, and purchase orders as well as processing AP checks, if necessary.
- Work on special projects as assigned.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, students, and vendors regarding financial transactions.
- Support audits by preparing documentation and reports as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Accounting or Controller.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent
experience).
- Minimum of 1 year professional experience required.
- 1–2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred (internships count).
- Proficiency with software (e.g., MS Office package with high level of proficiency in
Excel); experience with higher-ed systems like Microsoft Dynamics GP or similar
accounting software a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks amid interruptions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to College insurance provider.
