This is a full-time on-site role for a Staff Accountant at Whalen LLC located in San Diego, CA. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day financial tasks, including preparing and maintaining financial records, analyzing data, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Ideal candidates will have a strong accounting knowledge and will be able to be flexible to a variety of roles and responsibilities in our accounting department, including performing journal entries, account analysis, preparation of various reconciliations and financial analysis.
General position Responsibilities:
  • Assist in month-end closing process by preparing journal entries, general account analysis, and account reconciliations.
  • Manage and mentor accounting team staff.
  • Reconcile subledgers to the general ledger monthly.
  • Ensure financial transactions are recorded in compliance with GAAP.
  • Respond to information requests, review financial statements, and assist with audits.
  • Maintains accounting ledgers, by verifying and posting account transactions at month end, ensure accuracy of financial statement and timeliness.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly budgets.
  • Meet with finance team overseas one per week or as required.
  • Ability to multitask duties.
  • Prepare local taxes and coordinate quarterly and yearly reports to our tax firm.
Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is a must.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Must have 10 + years of work experience in a similar role.
  • Must be detail oriented and have a high degree of accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Must have solid knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Organizational and time management skills to meet sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Inventory management experience.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 a plus.
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Excel (Pivot tables and VLOOKUP’s)
