Full job description

The primary functions of the Senior Accountant will be to lead and manage many areas of accounting including payroll processing, bank reconciliation, retirement benefits and tax filings. They will provide accounting support to the Controller & Finance Director, the transactional accounting team and the broader business. Will be required to be a self-starter, manage multiple priorities and deadlines in fast-paced time-sensitive environment while maintaining transactional excellence and internal controls. They will also serve as backup for the Controller & Finance Director.

Expected Schedule/Hours of Work: Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8a.m. – 5p.m. with flexibility based on work deadlines

Core Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll processing, filing and accounting for the company
  • Specific area of focus on payroll, cash and tax filings
  • Research, analyze, and formally document accounting transactions to ensure adherence to reporting requirements
  • Communicate directly and often with HR, the operations team, project managers and preconstruction team – as well as other leaders talking through the importance of accounting processes
  • Manages the delivery of retirement services to employees and/or other targeted program participants or beneficiaries. Consults with and advises employees on retirement plan and related issues. Provides information, options and documentation.
  • Partner with the business to drive efficiency and eliminate potential redundancies that do not drive value
  • Assist in review of the P&L with the business to ensure proper accounting treatments
  • Support the Controller & Finance Director in maintaining the Company’s financial reporting and policies
  • Establish timelines and prioritization of monthly and quarterly individual deliverables to support monthly and quarterly close processes as well as financial reporting timelines
  • Interface with external CPA firm for annual reviews and audits
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience in accounting and payroll
  • 5+ years experience in accounting role with proven advancement
  • Progressive accounting roles, with experience in construction industry is highly desired
  • In-house payroll processing and accounting, journal entries and reconciliations in a variety of accounting areas
  • Tax process exposure; tax filing experience in payroll and other areas
  • Experience with retirement benefit plans
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, SAGE 300, other ERP experiences and ability to learn / use industry specific programs such as Procore
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Business

Certifications (preferred but not required)
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
