Under general supervision, exercise accounting control over university accounts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of accounting reports and/or reconciliations.
- Review and approve University expenses and expenditure requests.
- Advise the University community of the policies and procedures utilized by the Office of Business Affairs and State and Federal regulations.
- Respond to business office inquiries from the University community.
- Assist with the close of the fiscal year.
- Ensure that work assignments are completed timely and accurately.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, Public Administration, CIS with an emphasis in accounting and a minimum of two years’ experience directly related to the duties specified or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and application
- Knowledge of computer-based programs to include experience with Excel.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports.
- Ability to balance and reconcile various types of accounts.
- Excellent customer service and written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
- Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
- Work is sedentary in nature and at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Paid Time Off
Full time exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month.
Employee Educational Assistance Plan
Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for three courses (up to nine credit hours) per semester. Employees’ spouses or children may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
