The Accountant is responsible for the specific aspects of APU’s general ledger, including, timeliness and accuracy of data entry, bank reconciliation and assisting budget officers’ administration with budget officer financial reports, and accounting and reporting. This position reports directly to the CFO.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, including:

o Reviewing Balance Sheet Accounts for accuracy;

o Reviewing Student Account Refunds with Financial Aid and Student Accounts

o Reviewing monthly bank statements; and reconciliation of BBFE transactions

o preparing and posting monthly departmental charge backs,

o preparing and posting journal entries to correct balances;

o Calculates and records Land Leases rents.

o Fixed Assets and Depreciation

  • Assist Controller with general ledger monthly and yearly closes, including preparation of the required reconciliations and workpapers for the annual audit.
  • Reconciles the CAMS student information system to the general ledger.
  • Coordinate with Advancement and Awards Management to track and input transactions from other Blackbaud modules like Raiser’s Edge.
  • Performs and reviews the Raiser’s Edge integration entry into the accounting system.
  • Prepares entries and financial reports for all beneficial interests (foundations and trust).
  • Prepares and supports Advancement in recording the annual APU Foundation distribution to APU calculation.
  • Prepares and reviews the Payroll integration entry into the accounting system.
  • Backups Payroll.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Reviews and posts uploads from subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

  • Knowledge of accounting theory and practice including account coding, receivables, payables, payroll, revenue, expense and budget analysis.
  • Knowledge of OMB Circulars A-21, A-110, and A-133.
  • Skill in utilizing accounting software programs and electronic web access.
  • Skill in utilizing Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in working with minimum supervision.
  • Skill in working well under pressure and meeting scheduled timelines.
  • Skill in working effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, as well as outside business associates.
  • Skill in being detail oriented.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-Supervisory: Four (4) years accounting experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Grant management experience preferred.
