Description

  • Serve as a member of the financial services team of the $2 billion Dallas ISD to monitor complex accounts related to Fixed Assets from supporting data to General Ledger.
  • Review accounting transactions and back up for the funds managed by the General Ledger team to ensure recognition following general accounting principles, Texas Education Agency guidelines, and applicable policies and laws.
  • Provide direction and assistance to other departments and campuses regarding accounting policies, procedures, and efficient internal controls.
  • Review and evaluate assigned revenues, and expenditure line codes to assess the accuracy and obtain the necessary documentation for journal adjustments if needed.
  • Work closely with the assistant director/director/manager and other Accounting Services department members to understand and maintain focus on their reporting needs and create moderately complex Oracle and/or Excel reports for reporting and analyzing information.
  • Proactively analyze data to answer key questions for stakeholders and identify District wide Capital Assets.
  • Monitor and identify district wide Capital Assets related to GASB 96 (including Bonds Funds) and Capital and Leased Assets related to GASB 87, for additions, deletions, flagging and reconciliation.
  • Prepare, research and analyze accounting records for new Controllable Assets threshold (including Bond Funds) to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Performs expenditure review to identify wrongly coded items and ensures monthly correction.
  • Upload and manage inventory data to Red Beam Inventory software and troubleshoot with the company, if needed.
  • Performs monthly reconciliation of Fixed Assets and Bond transactions, and review and approve the Asset transactions in Oracle.
  • Monitor and identify district wide Capital Assets related to GASB 96 for additions, deletions, and reconciliation related to SBITA.
  • Performs processing and reconciliation of bond transactions in Capital Assets module and assist with processing and reconciliation of fixed assets related to ERate in Capital Assets module.
  • Cross training of the functions handled by the Accounting Services department.
  • Test any new updates to the Oracle system and other accounting software to ensure that all accounting entries related to Fixed Assets are properly processed and posted to General Ledger.
  • Prepare year-end financial statement notes and schedules.
  • Keep abreast of technical, legislative, and professional trends and developments affecting Fixed Assets area and disseminate information to appropriate district personnel.
  • Assist the department in establishing, maintaining, and updating accounting procedures, processes, and internal controls and assist internal and external auditors when required.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting.
  • Four years of experience in accounting, and one year experience with Oracle or other major enterprise software solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of Governmental accounting is required.
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel is required, including the creation of spreadsheets, linked spreadsheets, using Functions, Macros and creating Pivot Tables.
  • Ability to learn accounting rules fast and implement those in various accounting areas.
  • Ability to create a variety of moderately complex financial and compliance reports, including. subsidiary ledgers, reconciliations and other financial transaction summary reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of auditing, financial statement preparation and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data or information and identify trends or financial issues.
  • Ability to interpreting and communicating the meaning of information for others and to analyze financial data.
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
