Project Accountant

Come and join a growing and innovative company at KITCO Fiber Optics! This position reports to the Controller and is located at our headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. Aspects of the job include taking initiative, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and identifying areas for process improvement.

The ideal Project Accountant will be highly organized, proficient, and accurate in accounting for government contracting projects for our Field Services division. They will possess the ability to collaborate across multiple departments to solve problems and achieve objectives. They are deadline-driven and able to communicate the status of their projects. They will be timely and accurate with performing in-house payroll.

Job Responsibilities/Scope:

  • Accurately track costs and revenue for numerous government contracting projects using Deltek CostPoint 8.2

  • Invoice customers on a timely and scheduled basis according to purchase order requirements

  • Collaborate with Field Services program managers on project close-outs and completing necessary paperwork

  • Follow up on unpaid invoices, quickly identifying and resolving issues

  • Participate in the month-end close process, completing journal entries and account reconciliations accurately and timely

  • Process bi-weekly payroll using ADP WorkForceNow, including California employees

  • Review timecards weekly for accuracy and reasonableness and work with supervisors to resolve issues

  • Maintain a high level of security and confidentiality of sensitive information

  • Ad hoc projects and other duties as required

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong organization, leadership, confidentiality, and communication skills

  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven

  • Knowledge of payroll processes, federal and state regulations, best practices, and internal controls

  • Knowledge of current federal and state wage and hour laws

  • Professional, concise, and effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers across teams in partnership with internal and external clients

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Degree

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred

  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint highly preferred

  • 1-3 years accounting/payroll experience

  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and GAAP

  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups

  • Self-motivated and organized, with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to learn new software quickly

  • Competency in MS Office

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in an office environment.

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and work on a computer
