As a Staff Accountant – Royalties & Licensing, you will lead the preparation, analysis, and reporting of royalty calculations based on complex contractual agreements and sales data. You’ll manage detailed royalty workbooks, partner with licensors to resolve inquiries, and ensure compliance with product approval guidelines. Your role will also support audits, uphold legal and financial accuracy, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth financial and licensing operations. You’ll be part of a fast-paced corporate finance team focused on meeting deadlines, delivering accurate and timely reporting, and providing strategic financial insights to senior leadership—all while ensuring full compliance with SEC regulations.

What will you do:

  • Prepare and review royalty calculations and reports based on contractual agreements and sales data.
  • Manage and reconcile royalty reporting workbooks, addressing any discrepancies as needed.
  • Oversee royalty payables, ensuring timely payments to licensors.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects, i.e., ensuring compliance with product approval guidelines as outlined in contractual agreements.
  • Calculate and analyze quarterly royalty reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with licensing agreements.
  • Utilize advanced financial models and analytical tools to forecast and reconcile royalty payments.
  • Responsible for submitting quarterly reporting to contractual licensors.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with licensors, serving as the primary point of contact for all royalty-related inquiries.
  • Support audit processes by preparing necessary documentation and responding promptly to queries from external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to royalty reporting and licensing agreements.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Brand, and Accounting teams to ensure accuracy in financial data, contract terms, royalties, and product approval statuses.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support broader business objectives.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process enhancements and automation within the royalty and licensing accounting function.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or another related field, or commensurate mix of experience and education.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • 2+ years of experience in royalty and licensing accounting or a similar role
  • Proven experience with accounting systems, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP, IFRS) and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work with complex formulas, pivot tables, and large datasets.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, or other ERP systems).
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate across departments and present financial data.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition principles and experience working with licensing agreements
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Multilingual a plus

The base salary may vary based on experience, role tenure, performance, industry, and location. Eligibility for the annual performance incentive may apply. Jazwares is a multi-state employer, so the salary range may not apply to other states.
